Mahadevappa Rampure Medical College (MRMC) Gulbarga was started in the year 1963. The clinical section began in 1964 and the clinical section in 1966.

The College was recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI) in 1972 and was the second Private Medical College in the Country next to Manipal to get recognition. The graduates of the College are serving in different parts of the country and abroad. The Post-graduate courses began in 1979 and now the College is offering Post-graduate training in 18 different subjects.

The College got credit from the Medical Council of India in 1972. It was the second private medical college in the Country after KMC, Manipal to get this credit. College also got the gratitude from the British Medical Council.

MBBS (Medicine and Surgery) - Stands for Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery.

Typically, MBBS (Medicine and Surgery) is a 5 or 5 years course, minimum eligibility for which is an intermediate (10+2) in science with more than 50%marks. Surgery is essentially the process of utilizing instrumental techniques on a person by the doctors for investigating as well as treating a pathological condition, for instance disease or injury.

•  Candidates from outside Karnataka State must get eligibility certificate from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.

• 50% of the aggregate marks in electives taken together at the qualifying examination and 50% marks in Entrance Test.

The M.B.B.S Course is governed by the regulations of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka. The duration of the course is four and half years (9 terms, each of 6 month duration) of academic Study and one year of internship.

The aim of KIMS is to impart training to medical students to be competent in the management of health problems of the individual and the community, matching with his or her position as a member of the society and familiarize with the national health programs.

Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences is also recognized by General Medical Council, United Kingdom, World Health Organization and the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynecologists, London.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION:

1. The candidates should have passed the two years P.U.C examination conducted by the P.U Education Board, Karnataka State, with Physics, Chemistry & Biology as optional subjects; or any other examination recognized as equivalent to it by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore. OR The candidates should have passed the B.Sc examination of Bangalore University or any other statutory University provided he/she has passed the B.Sc examination with not less than three of the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology.

2. The Candidates should have secured not less than 50% of the total marks in Science subjects taken altogether at the qualifying examination & CET/COMED-K. However the OBC-3A category and SC/ST students of Karnataka are required to secure 40% of the total marks.

3. The Candidate should have completed seventeen years of age as on 31st December of the year of admission.

4. Foreign students desiring admission should produce:

(a) A No Objection Certificate from the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, New Delhi.

(b) An eligibility Certificate from the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore. (c) Student Visa. (d) Residential Certificate.

5. The Selection is based on the Common Entrance Test (C.E.T), conducted once a year by the Karnataka

Government or COMED-K conducted by Consortium of Pvt Medical Colleges of Karnataka once a year for all the students from the state & country seeking admission into the course.
