AJ Institute of Medical Sciences is a medical college in Mangalore with an annual intake of 150 students. The college is an off shoot of A J Hospital and Research centre. The college is promoted by industrialist Mr.A.J.Shetty. The college was established on 21 October 2002. This college is situated at Kuntikana junction on NH-17. The medical college is currently affiliated with RGUHS and recognized by Medical Council of India. The first batch passed out of final MBBS in February 2007 and completed internship on 15 April 2008.

The promoting body of all the Medical & Para Medical Instituitions is Laxmi Memorial Education Trust (R.).The Trust being a Family Trust was registered in the year 1991 in the memory of Late. Laxmi Shetty, mother of Mr. A.J Shetty, who is the President and Managing Director of the Trust. The Trust is accorded the recognition of linguistic minority trust by the Government of Karnataka.

Being the pioneer industrialist of South Kanara, Mr. A.J Shetty started his successful journey to the domain of excellence from a humble background. Admission Details

Eligibility Criteria
A Pass in 12th Standard or Equivalent examination approved by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects and English as one of the languages of study, with atleast 50% marks in aggregate of optional subjects. The candidate should have completed 17 years of age as on December 31, 2009.

List of documents to be produced at the time of admission
  • 12th standard equivalent marks card / pass certificate - Original + 3 attested photocopies.
  • 10th standard pass certificate for proof of date of birth - Original + 3 attested photocopies.
  • Transfer Certificate from the institution last attended - Original + 3 attested photocopies.
  • Conduct certificate from the institute last attended - Original only.
  • Eligibility certificate issued by the Register, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore ( separate application is to be made to the RGUHS )
  • Migration certificate from the Board of the institution last studied.

Admission Details

Selection of Candidates
  1. Seats are allotted by merit selection which is based on Common Entrance Test (KRLMPCA) conducted, followed by Centralized Counselling. 
  2. 15% of total intake allotted under NRI / Foreigner category on Merit selection.
Eligibility Criteria
A. Admission procedure for Indian Nationals
  • Two years P.U.C. Examination conducted by the P.U.C. Board, Karnataka State with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology as Optional subjects or any other examination recognized as equivalent by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Science. Or 
  • Intermediate examination in Science of an Indian University/Board or other recognized examining body with Physics, Chemistry and Biology, which shall include a practical test in these subjects and also English as compulsory subject. 
  • First year of the three year degree course of recognized University with Physics, Chemistry and Biology including a practical test in these subjects provided the examination is an 'University Examination'. 
  • B.Sc., Examination of an Indian University, provided that he/she has passed the B.Sc., Examination with not less than two of the following subjects :-Physics, Chemistry and Biology, English. 
  • Any other examination which in scope and standard is found to be equivalent to the intermediate science examination of an Indian University/Board, taking Physics , Chemistry and Biology including a practical test in each of these subjects and English Provided that :-
    • In case of admission on the basis of qualifying examination to medical course a candidate must have obtained not less than 50 Percent marks in English and 50 Percent marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology taken together in the qualifying examination.
    • In case of admission on the basis of a competitive Entrance Examination to Medical course, a candidate must have obtained not less than 50 percent marks in English and 50 Percent marks in Physics,Chemistry and Biology in the qualifying examination.
    • However, in respect of Schedule Caste/ Scheduled Tribe and Category- 1 candidates, the minimum marks required for admission shall be 40% in lieu of 50% for general candidates.
    • The candidate should have completed 17 years on or before 31st day of December of the year of admission.
B. Admission Procedure for NRIs / Foreign Nationals
  • Examinations recognized as equivalent by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences are: Britain: G.C.E. examination of U.K with passes in - 5 subjects at least at Ordinary level and 2 subjects at Advanced Level or - 4 subjects at Ordinary level and 3 subjects at Advanced Level
  • Kuwait: General Secondary Education Certificate Examination (12 year course) conducted by the Ministry of Education Kuwait
  • United Arab Emirates: General Secondary Education Certificate awarded by the Ministry of Education. United Arab Emirates.
  • U.S.A.: 12-year High School Diploma of U.S.A.
  • Iran: (1) Secondary School Certificate Examination (Community School Tehran). (2) Sixth Year Certificate of Secondary Schools (Ministry of Education & Training (3) 4th year Diploma of the Secondary Schools. (12 year course offered under the new pattern of School education)
  • Malaysia: Malaysian Certificate of Education (University of Cambridge Local Exams). (2) Higher School Certificate Exam (University of Cambridge Local Exams syndicate in collaboration with University of Malaysia and University of Singapore) (3) Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia/ Sijil High School Graduation Diploma (International School of Kuala Lumpur)
