D Y Patil Medical College, Mumbai was founded in the year 1996. The institute received recognition of the Medical Council of India (MCI), for the award of MBBS degree from its very first batch.

The Dr. D.Y. Patil Vidyapeeth comprising of Padmashree Dr. D.Y. Patil Medical College, Hospital & Research Centre, has been awarded the status of University under section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956.

The college was permitted to teach post-graduate courses in a couple of subjects. In June 2005, the college was allowed an intake of 81 students in post graduate degree and diploma.

Eligibility at Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences

Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences has laid down certain eligibility criteria for those who have applied for appearing in DMIMS AIPMET entrance exam.
The candidate applying for this entrance test must be a citizen of India.
The candidate must be above 17 years of age at the time of applying for this test.
The candidates must have passed Higher Secondary Certificate Examination (10+2) or its equivalent, from any recognized state/national Board.
